Historic Filey is an attractive town with a wide appeal, as a fishing town by the sea it has a rich heritage particularly associated with maritime subjects that have attracted international recognition.

With a unique natural environment and surrounding countryside, it has an established tourism market and a close proximity to the the North York Moors National Park.  Because of this, it is well placed for the visitor to use Filey as a base for exploring the wider assets of the Yorkshire area that is rich in natural life and culture.

Traditionally, Filey has drawn  visitors from all ages because of its long stretches of beach, however, the town can cater for the short breaks and the growth in the high quality niche tourism markets based upon the historical, environmental and heritage assets to the locality.

This latest version of the Town Guide has now been published and yet again, it reflects the qualities of the town.  It  is packed with a wide range of invaluable information and features that are beautifully illustrated and articles that are written by local specialists.  The Guide is funded purely from advertisements, donations, The Filey Town Council and various outlets in the town.

The Guide  is produced by the Town Guide Working Party who are a group of volunteers who devote their free time to gather information, articles and photographs of interest for future publications.

Filey is featured in the Community Strategy for the Borough of Scarborough 2006 - 2009 and when preparing this page, reference was made to this publication.
