The Filey Flying School 1910 - 12


This latest publication from the Filey Initiative compliments their 100 year anniversary celebrations of the Filey Flying School, which was the forerunner of the Blackburn Aircraft Ltd, now a part of BAE Systems.

This excellent pamphlet which is the fifth in a series of educational works documents the history of early flight at Filey and introduces pioneeering characters such as Charles Hucks and Hubert Oxley and illustrates how experimental early flight was developed here.

This popular publication from the Filey Bay Initiative is still available.  This Pamphlet is the fourth in the current series of publications of subjects of educational and general and is part of the Initiative's continuing and ongoing commitment to Filey.

The Pamphlet tells the exciting story of the famous Battle of Filey Bay in which the flag ship of Commodore John Paul Jones, the Bonhomme Richard was lost during the battle with the English frigate Serapis during the time of the American War for Independence and includes a map of the battle site . 

This attractive publication contains artwork generously donated by the internationally renowned award-winning author, sailor, painter, journalist, historian, and adventurer, William Gilkerson.   The Initiative are privileged and honoured  to have his work included in their publication and extend their gratitude to him.
